Harvard-Affiliated Studies Finds That Eating Nuts Decreases Risk of Gallbladder Attack Among Female Participants
A study conducted by scientists from the Harvard-affiliated Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the Harvard School of Public Health reveals that frequent nut consumption substantially lowers the risk of gallbladder attack in women. (1)
According to the study, regular nut consumption contributes to better overall health for all individuals. Findings suggest that individuals who consume five or more units (one unit= 1 ounce or 28.6 grams) a day are 20% less likely to die over a 30 year period than those who do not consume any nuts.
In general, those who regularly consumed nuts also tended to be thinner, which alleviates worries over whether or not nuts (which are rich in healthy fats) cause weight gain. This suggests that the heavy fat content in nuts has a positive energy pay off. Crucially, the study found that nuts are rich in several compounds that protect against gallstone disease, which is a major source of morbidity in North America, especially amongst woman.
Another study has reached the same results, that frequent nut consumption results in decreased risk of gallbladder attacks and cholecystectomy in women (2)
Roughly 80% of gallstones occur due to excess build-up of cholesterol. The study found that nuts contain many nutrients that breakdown and prevent the build-up of cholesterol associated with gallstones. Nuts are rich in healthy, non-saturated fats, which could account for the positive effect they have on blood lipids. Healthy fats also help to cleanse the liver and gallbladder. Furthermore, nuts are great sources of dietary fibre, which helps with digestion and strips the body of excess toxicity. Nuts also contain phytosterols, which appear to inhibit cholesterol absorption in the body, leading to lower blood cholesterol, therefore decreasing the risk of developing gallstones.
The findings are consistent with longstanding assumptions about the positive correlation between gallbladder health and nut consumption. Both nuts and peanuts (which aren’t botanically nuts) and peanut butter were shown to significantly help prevent gallstone disease.
The Study Concluded That A Reduction In Mortality Was Observed With The Regular Consumption Of The Following Nuts:
– Pine Nuts
– Pistachios
– Pecans
– Macadamias
– Cashews
– Almonds
– Hazelnuts
– Walnuts
– Brazil Nuts
– Peanuts
So incorporating nuts is a great natural and healthy way to strip your body of excess cholesterol and toxicity. It’s an added bonus that nuts are a great source of energy that don’t cause weight gain!
Several Previous Studies Had Linked Increasing Nut Consumption With A Lower Risk Of Diseases Such As:
– Heart disease,
– Type 2 diabetes,
– Colon cancer,
– Gallstones,
– Diverticulitis.
Higher Nut Consumption Also Has Been Linked To Reductions In:
– Cholesterol levels
– Oxidative stress
– Inflammation
– Adiposity
– Insulin resistance (1)
